I've just bought the book 'Cartooning - The Head & Figure' by Jack Hamm. Its a really practical book. Recommended.

If you're just starting out, gain a deeper understanding of the underpinnings of visual communication to inform how you structure the work on your graphic chart.  Build your cartooning skills so your icons and integrated graphics pull people into your work.  Then deepen your skills by finding your own unique drawing style.  Here's what's on my bookshelf.

The Underpinnings of Visual Communication:

Understanding Comics, Reinventing Comics, Comics and Sequential Art, Visual Language, Mapping Inner Space, Essentials of Visual Communication, Universal Principles of Design, The Nature of Design, Beyond Words

Ramping Up Your Cartooning Skills

Cartooning for the Beginner, Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Cartooning But Were Afraid to Draw, Perspective for Comic Book Artists, Drawing Cartoons, Markers Wet & Wild

Ramping Up Your Drawing Skills

Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists, Drawing People, Anatomy for the Artist, Drawing Dynamic Hands, Experiential Drawing
